Join me for an exploration of Indigo and Shibori in beautiful Ann Arbor, Mi! Participants will learn basics of dyeing with a plant-based indigo vat, along with various approaches to shibori dyeing. We will focus on Itajime (shape resist) and Kumo (twist resist), as well as many other experimental techniques.
All materials are provided but students are highly encouraged to bring small goods to dye. Cellulose fibers (cotton, linen, rayon, ramie) accept the color the best. Vintage linens, pillowcases, dishtowels and clothing are all perfect for this. Please prewash any items you plan to bring in hot water before the workshop. Wear old clothing and shoes that can be stained. There will be an hour break for lunch. You are welcome to bring your own or enjoy the many wonderful restaurants that surround the Art Center in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor.
