I am introducing a sponsorship program that will allow people in marginalized communities (including but not limited to people of color, low income, LGBTQ+ and folks with disabilities) to attend my workshops at no cost to them. While the cost of workshops is necessary at this point to cover my own expenses and the expenses of the host venues, I understand that the costs for workshops can be prohibitive, especially for marginalized populations who are the most affected by the institutionalized inequality present in the craft community (and the larger global community). This is my small initial effort to contribute to a more inclusive, diverse Craft community and make strides towards enabling more representation in educational settings.
If you live in an area nearby where I have an upcoming workshop but are unable to attend for financial reasons, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please let me know your name and which workshop you’re interested in attending. You can tell me as much or as little as you would like about yourself, and I would love to hear more about your relationship with craft and creativity. Any responses you provide will be handled with complete discretion. If there is funding available at that point, I’ll confirm your registration with you. If there isn’t, you’ll be put on a waitlist and be notified when funding becomes available. Please note that the fund only covers the costs of registration and any associated fees and not transportation to the workshop.
As an initial offering, there are two sponsorship positions for the rest of 2019 that can be applied to any workshop that is not currently full. With third party venues like museums, galleries and businesses hosting my workshops, I have to make sure their commission for workshop registration is covered. If you would be interested in donating towards a sponsorship position and thus expanding this beyond the existing two sponsorships, you can do so below or donate directly through PayPal using the address email@example.com. If you would like to donate more than $5, simply increase the quantity to increase the amount in $5 increments (i.e., 3 for $15, 4 for $20, etc.). The money will go into a pooled sponsorship fund, and when a student reaches out in need of assistance for a specific workshop, the corresponding amount will be pulled from the fund to cover costs for the workshop host. Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated. Complete financial transparency will be provided along the way, with complete discretion always offered for participants.
